I studied sociology at the University of Chile as an undergraduate and first came to the UK to do my PhD in the Department of Sociology at the University of Warwick, where I studied with Robert Fine. At Warwick I also had my first academic job in Britain, which I then gave up in order to go back to Chile. I spent five years in the Department of Sociology at the University Alberto Hurtado in Santiago, where I was privileged enough that my main task was to set up the first doctoral programme in Sociology in Chile in 2006.

I joined Loughborough in January 2010.
