Postgraduate Research Group (PREG)
Coordinators: Kao Kuo-Kuei (Pascal), Liu Chen-Li(Jenny), Alex Wade.
The Postgraduate Research Group (PREG) was initially formed in October, 1997 in order to provide a forum for postgrad students to meet together and discuss different research issues that arise during their period of study at Loughborough. The intention of the group is to cover a wide range of topics, and to provide a safe and comfortable environment for people to try out new ideas and discuss different aspects of research. In initial meetings, the group decided it was important to use PREG as a means to subvert some of the usual research practices within the social science (e.g., the perceived division between qualitative and quantitative approaches) by looking for alternatives and different ways of working.
Specifically, PREG provides a forum for postgraduate research students (in the social sciences department) to:
- Discuss and develop their research in a supportively critical atmosphere.
- Discuss and develop new research ideas and applications.
- Share new insights or important information amongst other post-grad students.
- Challenge existing methods and attitudes.
- Learn important skills and techniques both from each other, post-grad students from different departments or universities, and from staff members.
PREG is a supportive and challenging group for all social science postgrads. It provides positive social and education experiences for members.
PREG aims to build links with similar groups in different departments and universities.
