Siemens Medal Winner 2008

Ian B King receiving his medal from Mr Tom White who is the new Chief Executive Officer of Siemens (UK).

Ian King receiving his medal from Mr Tom White who is the new Chief Executive Officer of Siemens (UK) - appointed in October 2007. Ian received his medal in recognition of the significant and distinctive contribution that he made to his placement company (Renishaw plc) during the year 2006-2007.

During his placement year Ian was employed by Renishaw plc developing Field Programmable Gate Arrays for a variety of applications.

Ian modelled good engineering practice with regards to verification processes and improved the in-house VHDL Intellectual Property library. This included the formalization of the design reuse process and the implementation of a revision control system. This created the environment for the potential reuse of many designs that could be trusted as already verified, so saving time and expense whilst improving reliability.

Ian also introduced a behavioural modelling technique for board-level components enabling a physical device's characteristics to be captured, resulting in an improvement to the quality of verification at board level. The work he pioneered will have a long lasting effect his group reducing product development time and improving reliability.
