Broad Interests and Expertise
The multi-dimensional nature of how we design, build and use our built environment and the implications of these for the environment, economy and human experience.
Research Interests
- Energy use behaviour and the human experience of the built environment, including characterisation; feedback techniques; interventions and the motivational and technical drivers of habits
- Large scale building stock performance
- Early design stage evaluation of sustainable energy systems for buildings
- Assessing the effectiveness of policy instruments and impact of technological growth on national CO2 emissions
- The differences between predicted and actual energy performance of buildings
- The role of technology and messaging (implicit and explicit) in consumption patterns and environmental attitudes
- Architectural design theory, synthesis and decision making
