What makes Loughborough specialLoughborough offers you excellent facilities and opportunities – all on a single site. The campus is large with plenty of open space, garden areas and sporting facilities interspersed between the academic buildings and student housing.
Throughout Loughborough University’s history – from the early days of the famous Loughborough Colleges in 1909 – to University status in 1966, Loughborough has built upon its distinctive characteristics. Our well established strengths and traditions of innovative teaching and learning combine to offer you a special mix of opportunities:
Unique locationThe heart of the English countryside is on your doorstep: the Charnwood Forest next door, the Peak District nearby. Leicester, Nottingham and Derby are near neighbours. A mile from campus the M1 motorway provides rapid access to most destinations. The good rail service to London takes around one and a half hours and the nearby Nottingham East Midlands International Airport extends your horizons further.
International StudentsLoughborough University has a long tradition of welcoming
students from all over the world. Today we have more than 2,100 international
students living and working on campus. Much more information is available
at: http://www.lboro.ac.uk/admin/ar/international
AccommodationWe do our utmost to make sure you have a place in hall.
We recognise this is one of the keys to a successful beginning of
your University career. A high proportion of undergraduates seeking
residence in Loughborough live in Halls of Residence on or adjacent
to the campus – one of the highest proportions in the country,
with more than 5,000 students on campus. Loughborough’s accommodation
charges compare favourably within the region, and are seen to be especially
good value in national comparisons. Students’ UnionLoughborough’s Students' Union is situated at the entrance to the campus and is an integral part of the University. In terms of the number of events provided, and the wide range of tastes that these events cater for, the Union is now the largest music and dance venue in Leicestershire and is, by far, the biggest provider of professional entertainment in Loughborough. Each week there are regular screen films, hugely popular discos, smaller alternative discos, free bands, mind-boggling quizzes and live comedy direct from the London circuit. Big name bands complement this, as do end of term parties and the Graduation Ball. Loughborough Rag is the biggest and most successful in the UK, and allegedly the world. It regularly raises over £400,000 in a year. Whatever your interest there is likely to be a club or society to take it that one step further. There are more than 100 clubs and societies that offer you a chance to have a go at activities you always wanted to try, and are also a great way to make new friends.
Sport and recreationLoughborough Students are renowned world wide for their sporting excellence. The Athletic Union co-ordinates this phenomenal sporting success story as well as ensuring access to ‘Sport for All’ for all Loughborough students.
