Phase Vision is redefining industrial metrology. With the introduction of “broadband metrology”, they offer a significant advance in measurement and inspection – enabling performance and efficiency gains, and leaps in productivity. Their 3D measurement system uses optical techniques which are accurate, fast and non-contact / non-invasive.
BACKGROUND
Phase Vision was founded in 2002 as a spinout company from the Optical Engineering Group at Loughborough University. From 2002 to 2007 the company established its reputation as a leading technology consultancy in optical metrology. In 2008, the decision was made to become a products vendor – a move which has seen the team grow rapidly, and seen endorsements of the Phase Vision products from across the aerospace, automotive and precision engineering sectors..
PRODUCTS/SERVICES
Phase Vision markets world-class dimensional metrology systems, based on a patented structured light approach developed at Loughborough University by Professor Jon Huntley’s research group. The technology core enables high speed, high accuracy dimensional measurement of “difficult” materials, such as carbon fibre, or machined titanium.
Phase Vision blends these core technologies with advanced mechanical and systems engineering to create advanced, easy to use measurement systems for industry. The resulting range of 3D scanners offer the excellent measurement performance expected of a metrology lab - but in a rugged format for the production line, the shop floor or the aircraft maintenance hangar. This emphasis on ruggedness and usability has driven research in diverse areas – such as to ease the measurement of composite materials with varying optical qualities, reduce the effect of ambient light on the optics, and to de-skill the measurement task – enabling 100% inspection of many products where it was simply not viable in the past.
FORWARD STRATEGY
Phase Vision established itself as a leading optical metrology consultancy and has now successfully introduced a products division. Currently their product range is only available within Europe. Expansion plans include establishing channels into the US and AsiaPac regions. Recent investment from the Lachesis Fund and Octopus Ventures enables this expansion to take place.
