BACKGROUND
Traditional energy sources will not last forever, so alternatives are increasingly being sought. As supplies of fossil fuels are dwindling and carbon free alternatives are needed, there is a need for cleaner, more sustainable energy. The drive to reduce carbon emissions means there is increased demand for low carbon technologies, sustainable fuels and improved energy efficiency. Demand for energy is increasing, with more than 33% of the world’s population currently without power. Hydrogen technology provides an exciting opportunity.
PRODUCTS/SERVICES
Intelligent energy provides world class fuel cell technology, which gives portable, clean renewable hydrogen based energy that can be used in any location.
At the heart of the company’s technologies are its unique proprietary PEM fuel cells. A fuel cell is an electrochemical device which produces electricity, water and heat directly from hydrogen and oxygen. The cells use pure hydrogen to deliver clean power in any location for a diverse range of applications - from refrigerating vaccines in rural Africa to providing heat and electricity for homes, and even powering aeroplanes. The PEM technology is simple, cost effective, small and reliable. Intelligent Energy is the only company to have reported an unassisted cold start from -40C without the use of antifreeze.
In partnership with Suzuki, Intelligent Energy has used its fuel cell technology to produce the ENV bike, an environmentally friendly motorbike that produces almost no emissions. The bike can reach speeds of 50mph, outperforming any existing electric bike. The bike runs extremely quietly and emits only pure water. FORWARD STRATEGY
The ENV bike is currently undergoing intensive evaluation, with changes being made in response to trials around the world. There has been a high level of interest and a lot of publicity. The Times newspaper recently ran a full page article on the ENV bike.
