Spin-out profile: HAZID TECHNOLOGIES
Hazid Technologies has developed the first available software for the management of chemical plant hazard assessment. This will help companies worldwide in the oil, gas and chemical process industries to improve their safety operations, saving them time, effort and money.
BACKGROUND
Hazid Technologies has developed HAZID, a software product which simplifies the method for identifying hazards on industrial chemical sites. The product has been fully commercialized by Hazid Technologies in partnership with the Intergraph Corporation, a worldwide leader in process plant design software.
PRODUCTS/SERVICES
In the chemical industry hazard identification is almost universally based on the HAZOP (HAZard and Operability) analysis system, which is a time-consuming paper based procedure usually carried out manually with very limited computer aids.
Hazid has expertise in engineering and computing skills, and provides the only commercially developed knowledge based integrated method of hazard evaluation. HAZID is the first system to automate the systematic tasks involved in hazard analysis, producing a full HAZOP report with in superior format with little manual intervention.The HAZID technique is consistent, auditable and re-usable and saves time, money and effort.
FORWARD STRATEGY
Hazid is being commercialised through a marketing agreement with Intergraph using its established worldwide sales force. Sales staff in Europe, America and Asia are being trained and HAZID is now ready for market. Sales are targeted at large multinationals. Five prospects in Europe and the Americas are currently being pursued. The first sale has been secured in South Africa.
HAZID is being exploited through the sale of term licenses. Marketing will continue largely through distributors, complemented by Hazid’s internal marketing and sales capacity.
The Integraph Worldwide sales force allows a rapid acceleration of sales into the very large international process industry market. Hazid is now developing a batch process version of its technology. Business plans for the second phase of HAZID marketing are under development.
